OVERVIEW
Personalized education is the norm at the The International
University, TIU. You may assist in creating a curriculum especially
tailored to your personal and religious needs. The curriculum at TIU is
flexible and challenging. You are free to explore areas of human
knowledge in depth at your own rate of comprehension and retention.
Most of TIU's academic programs are conducted through independent
study. The primary function of our University is teaching and learning.
Every effort is made to assure that the tutorial relationship is of
pragmatic value to each and every one of our students.
The majority of our faculty are not full-time University employees.
We offer, therefore, a wide range of potential tutors to guide your
study and research efforts.
The University is constantly adding members of the adjunct faculty to
enhance the quality of our academic programs. TIU has created and
maintains an international network of tutors who are all holders of
earned academic degrees from recognized institutions of higher
education, who are well- versed in their particular areas of expertise,
and, most importantly, who enjoy working directly with students on study
and research projects.
TIU offers students virtually a world-wide classroom. We have created
an expanding network of study centers throughout the world to facilitate
combinations of travel and learning experiences for our students and our
faculty. YIU encourages full utilization of available community
resources which comprise a priceless and limitless range of cultural and
educational possibilities which could never be confined to any single
University campus.
Our University offers an alternative to lock-step, stereotypical
higher education. TIU has a simple organizational structure, equality of
all faculty members, and freedom from enervating bureaucratic rules and
procedures.
The major emphases of our University are directed toward
trans-cultural and/or interdisciplinary studies revealing the
interrelationships of all men and knowledge.
TIU has a completely open admissions policy for all secondary school
graduates. The University assumes that all persons have an equal right
to the opportunity to pursue their studies to the fullest extent they
are individually capable. Also, we have a flexible enrollment policy:
you may begin at any time you are ready to assume the responsibility of
University-level study.
TIU offers you the opportunity to experience a relatively inexpensive
education of superior quality. We do not have a colossal overhead
created by too many administrators having too little to do with
teaching, nor do we have a massive physical plant to maintain or
renovate.
Consequently, you do not face the choice of either a superior
education at private institutions with almost prohibitive fees or an
assembly-line public education. TIU offers a viable alternative by
combining the positive factors of each type of education.
INDEPENDENT STUDY PROGRAMS
All course offerings are faculty-directed independent study programs
using the open book method of instruction and examination. As a student,
you are a class of one: you set your own pace, and you choose the time
and location for your study.
The United States Department of Education endorses home study, as do
hundreds of other leading colleges and universities and all branches of
the Armed Forces. In fact, more people were enrolled in home study
courses the past few years than all freshmen who entered all the
traditional resident colleges and universities in the United States.
TRANSFER CREDITS
Every institution has it's own criteria regarding the transfer of
credits from one institution to another. Please inquire prior to
enrolling in any TIU program as to the the acceptance of credits by
other institutions or other agencies.
TIU's external degree program acknowledges the value of both formal
academic training and career-based life and work experience. Up to five
credits can be granted for each year of approved, college level
training. Certificates and diplomas in areas pertinent to all Religious
Studies will be considered for transfer credits. Seminars, special
projects, and a Masters thesis or Doctoral Dissertation will be
considered. All submitted material will be carefully evaluated by the
Faculty Review Committee.
There is no limit to the number of transfer, life work, or
professional service credits that can be evaluated toward your degree.
However, a minimum of 15 credit hours (one semester) must be completed
with TIU before graduation.
TIU is not designed to take the place of a traditional degree or
program, when required, and TIU is not designed for those seeking
licensure or professional positions. Please inquire with the
appropriate agency to see if a TIU degree or degree program will work
for you.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Application for admission . may be made at any time. To be admitted
to the undergraduate programs of TIU, a student must have a high school
diploma or equivalent. In order to be admitted to the Masters program,
the candidate must hold at least a Bachelors degree.
Once a student decides to enroll, they should complete the
application for admission and return it to TIU, along with any
transcripts from other institutions and a resume of any life, work, or
other ministerial experience the student would like to have evaluated.
After this information has been evaluated by the Faculty Review
Committee, the applicant will be notified of the acceptance or rejection
of his or her application, or if more information is required.
Each student who applies to and is accepted by TIU will be assigned a
Faculty Review Committee. The Committee will work with the student to
evaluate previous academic weaknesses and strengths and assist in
developing and maintaining a unique and personalized study program.
STUDENT EVALUATION FEE
The registration fee is $25.00. The Student information & evaluation
cost is $50.00. This total remittance of $75.00 may be paid by check to:
Burser at TIU. The registration fee is non-refundable and covers the
costs of the Student Academic Evaluation and automatically registers the
student upon acceptance into TIU.
Please note that the bursar's office must be in receipt of these fees
before the student begins any course work. No credit, certification,
diploma, transcript, degree, authorization to withdraw, or record of any
type will be issued until all financial responsibilities have been
satisfactorily met by the student.
COURSE WORK
The course work at TIU is very writing-intensive. Rather than give
comprehensive final examinations for each course, the students are
required to write a summation and analysis paper for each lesson
assignment given. These papers should generally be from five to ten
pages in length or long enough to completely cover the material
presented in the lesson assignments. Some programs differ in examination
procedures.
There are no time limits or deadlines for course completion and more
than one course may be taken at a time. However, each course must be
completed before it is submitted to TIU for evaluation. No incomplete
course work will be accepted.
Upon receipt of a course, members of the TIU faculty will evaluate
the papers and the grades will be returned to the student as soon as
possible. The average grade for all papers submitted for a course will
be the final grade for that course.
Each course generally takes about two months to complete. However,
this is only a rough estimate. With good study habits and sufficient
study time, a student can finish a course sooner.
Should a student decide to change a course at any time during his
degree program at TIU, he or she may do so by notifying our offices of
the proposed change. If the course change is approved, the student will
be sent the course materials for the new course and their cost will be
added to the student's bill. The old materials may be returned to TIU
and their cost will be deducted from the student's book account.
However, a $50 processing fee will be applied for each course change.
Remember You set your own pace for both academic and financial
requirements.
CURRICULUM
TIU does not require a battery of core courses before the student may
study his or her area of specialization. Therefore, the student may
begin by studying the area he or she is interested in immediately
without first having to work through several courses that may be totally
unrelated to the major. A total of thirty credit hours in a specific
area of study are required to major in that area.
As a student of TIU, you are encouraged to assist in your curriculum
selection (you know your own strengths and weaknesses better than anyone
else). Each numbered course listed receives five college credits upon
successful completion of the study.
In lieu of an Undergraduate Thesis, Masters Thesis, or Doctoral
Dissertation, the equivalent amount of course work may be substituted.
Should the student decide, however, to write a research project, he or
she will receive five credits for the research and an additional ten
credits for the completed Masters Thesis or Doctoral Dissertation.
It is important to note that before commencing any work on papers,
approval of the project must be granted by the Faculty Review Committee.
The subject may be selected from any approved topic of your choice. All
topic submissions must be made in writing to .
